Stephen LangerStephen Langer spent the first twenty-one years of his legal career in medium and large downtown Boston law firms, specializing in all aspects of commercial real estate, including leasing, financing, and development. He started as an associate, and then partner, with Fine & Ambrogne, and was later a Real Estate partner at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P. C., a 500+ lawyer firm with several U.S. offices and abroad. After two and one half years in solo practice, Steve co-founded Langer & McLaughlin, LLP in June of 2005, and the practices continues to cover the spectrum of commercial real estate projects. He is proud to maintain an A-V Rating, the highest available peer review rating by Martindale-Hubbell.

Steve represents, as leasing counsel, various pharmaceutical companies, a major institutional health care provider and the owners of several suburban office projects, and he has leased several restaurant/cafe and other retail locations. His current clients include the nations's largest provider of corporate child care services. Steve recently represented a major publicly-held pharmaceutical company in the largest lease transaction in the 2008 suburban Boston market - a 356,000 square foot build-to-suit corporate office project in the Metro West area. Among his other recent development projects are the expansion and relocation of a synagogue, the rezoning and redevelopment of an 18-acre suburban retail center, and the development of a fitness center complex by a private secondary school. In 2002, Steve completed the acquisition and financing of a 350,000 square foot regional retail power center on behalf of a state employees' pension fund, and in 2001 he represented another similar fund in connection with a $190 million equity in vestment and the closing of a $250 million construction loan for a one million square foot downtown office tower.

Steve's other clients have included various retail franchisees, regional office and retail landlords and local retail operators. In the past, Steve has represented developers in connection with two one million-plus square foot downtown office towers and a forty story residential apartment complex in downtown Boston, as well as various residential condominium and apartment developments and a 77,000 square foot suburban office condominium. In 1988, Steve acted as special real estate counsel to the Israeli government in connection with a major urban renewal project in Jerusalem. he has also represented various institutional lenders in both construction and permanent financings. Steve has lectured frequently on issues relating to commercial leasing, most recently in October, 2007 for CLE International.

  Doug McLaughlinDoug McLaughlin is a partner and co-founder of Langer & McLaughlin, LLP. Doug represents developers, owners and operators, landlords, tenants, venturers, and lenders in a wide variety of matters involving commercial real estate. His clients include a national retail pharmacy, private real estate investment trusts, a public pension fund, and several real estate entrepreneurs.

Prior to co-founding Langer & McLaughlin, LLP in June 2005, Doug spent the first nine years of his legal career at large, downtown law firms, first as an associate at Nutter, McClennen and Fish, LLP and later as an associate and then partner at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P. C., one of the fifty largest law firms in the United States. During that time, Doug's practice focused on all types of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions and sales, financing, development, leasing, and construction/architect contracts.

Doug has represented, as legal counsel, a national retail pharmacy and two international technology companies. Among his current and recent projects are the 80,000 square foot expansion of an existing 105,000 square foot corporate headquarters office building and the subleasing of a 140,000 square foot office building.

Doug also has experience representing non-profit higher education institutions. He represented the University of Massachusetts Medical School in the negotiation of construction and architect contracts in excess of $100,000,000 in connection with the Worcester school's current "Campus Revampus" project and the negotiation of construction contracts in excess of $50,000,000 for the 80,000 square foot expansion of the Massachusetts Biologics Laboratories at the former Boston State Hospital campus in Mattapan in 2002-2003; and Tufts University in connection with the permitting and development of a structured parking facility for its Somerville campus in 1997-1998.

Before entering the practice of law, Doug was a commissioned officer in the United States Navy, where her served as a Nuclear Propulsion Engineer aboard the USS South Carolina (CGN-37), and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for excellence in leadership.
